ArtMatch

Privacy policy

Effective June 15, 2026 · ArtMatch, Montréal, Québec, Canada

ArtMatch helps you discover art you love through a short style quiz. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have under Québec’s Law 25 and Canada’s PIPEDA. In short: we collect what we need to run the quiz, match you with art, and keep you in the loop. We don’t sell your personal information, and marketing cookies load only if you accept them. Questions or requests: privacy@tryartmatch.com.

Who we are

“ArtMatch,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of ArtMatch, a style-matching and art-discovery service available at tryartmatch.com, based in Montréal, Québec, Canada. We are the party responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

Our Privacy Officer, the person responsible for the protection of personal information under Law 25, can be reached at privacy@tryartmatch.com or by writing to ArtMatch, Privacy Officer, Montréal, Québec.

The personal information we collect

We collect only what we need, in three ways.

Information you give us

  • Email address, when you join the waitlist, create an account, ask our art curator a question, or submit a consignment as an artist or gallery.
  • Your style quiz answers and style profile, the artworks you keep or pass on, your saved works, your assigned style profile, and your stated budget range. We use this to build and improve your matches.
  • Room photos, if you use View-in-Room to preview a work on your wall, the photo you provide. These are stored privately and used only to render that preview.
  • Messages and submissions, anything you send us, including curator enquiries and, for artists and galleries, the details of works you offer for consignment.

Information we collect automatically

  • Device and connection data, IP address, browser and device type, and approximate region inferred from your IP.
  • Usage data, pages and artworks you view, actions you take in the quiz, and the time and outcome of those actions.
  • Identifiers, an anonymous visitor ID and a session ID we assign so the experience works before you sign in, and that we link to your account once you do.
  • Source and referral data, the campaign or referral parameters (UTM tags) in the link that brought you here.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small set of cookies and similar technologies, described in section 5.

We do not seek out sensitive information (such as health, religion, or political views), and we ask that you not send it to us. Your style and budget preferences are used only to match you with art.

Why we use your information

We use your personal information for these purposes:

  • To run the style quiz and match you with art, the core of the service.
  • To create and secure your account, including sending the magic link you use to sign in.
  • To operate the waitlist and contact you, transactional messages (sign-in, confirmations) and, where you have opted in, news about launch and new work.
  • To measure and improve the product, understanding what works so we can make ArtMatch better.
  • To advertise and measure campaigns, only with your consent (see section 5).
  • To keep the service safe, preventing spam, bots, and abuse, and enforcing rate limits.
  • To meet legal obligations, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Cookies and tracking technologies

When you first visit, we ask whether you accept marketing cookies. We remember your choice for 180 days, then ask again. You can change it any time by clearing the am_consent cookie in your browser. The categories we use:

Essential
Needed for ArtMatch to work. Your consent choice, sign-in session, anonymous visitor and session IDs, and bot protection. These are always on and are not used for advertising.
Analytics (first-party)
We measure how the product is used through our own analytics so we can improve it. This runs on a first-party basis and is not shared for advertising.
Marketing
Cookies and tags from Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google that help us measure ad campaigns and reach people who may be interested. These load only after you accept, and not before.

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of ArtMatch from working.

How matching works (automated processing)

Your matches are generated automatically. We turn your quiz answers and the works you keep, pass, or save into a style profile, and an automated system ranks works against it. This produces recommendations to help you discover art. It is not a decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you, and a human is not bound by it.

We use the providers listed in section 7 to power this matching and to generate the short descriptions you see. They process artwork data and de-identified style signals, not your contact details. If you want to understand the main factors behind your matches, or to share observations about them, contact privacy@tryartmatch.com and a person will respond.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract and only as needed to provide their service:

Hosting & delivery
Vercel · runs and serves the website and its functions.
Database, accounts & storage
Supabase · stores your account, quiz data, and (privately) your room photos, and handles sign-in.
Email
Resend (sign-in and transactional email) and beehiiv (newsletter and launch updates, where you've opted in).
Product analytics
PostHog · our first-party analytics, used to understand and improve the product.
Matching & AI
Replicate and Anthropic · power the matching engine and generate artwork descriptions. They process artwork data and de-identified style signals, not your contact details.
Security & abuse prevention
Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection) and Upstash (rate limiting).
Advertising (consent only)
Meta and Google · campaign measurement and advertising, only after you accept marketing cookies.

We may also disclose personal information when the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of people or ArtMatch, or as part of a business transaction such as a merger or sale, in which case we will require the recipient to honour this policy.

Storage and transfers outside Québec

ArtMatch is operated from Québec, but some of the providers above store or process information outside the province, including in the United States and the European Union. This means your personal information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, including lawful access requests by their authorities.

Before entrusting personal information to a provider outside Québec, we assess the transfer and put contractual protections in place (such as data-processing agreements and standard contractual clauses) so your information receives a comparable level of protection. You can ask us for more detail at privacy@tryartmatch.com.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, then delete or anonymize it:

  • Account and style data, while your account is active, and afterward only as needed to meet legal or legitimate operational requirements.
  • Waitlist email, until launch and a reasonable period after, or until you unsubscribe.
  • Room photos, until you delete them or your account, whichever comes first.
  • Usage and analytics data, retained in a limited form to understand and improve the product.
How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information: encryption in transit, row-level access controls so you see only your own data, private storage for room photos, and server-only handling of secrets and keys. No system is perfectly secure, but if a confidentiality incident creates a risk of serious harm, we will notify the Commission d’accès à l’information and affected individuals as Law 25 requires.

Your rights

Under Law 25 and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and know how it is used and shared.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.
  • Withdraw consent, unsubscribe from marketing, or change your cookie choice.
  • Delete your account and the personal information tied to it. When you do, we purge your profile, style data, saved works, and room photo, and remove you from our newsletter provider. No taste data is left behind.
  • Portability, receive the computerized personal information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used technological format.
  • Ask about automated matching, the factors behind your matches and to share observations (section 6).

To exercise any of these, email privacy@tryartmatch.com. We will respond within 30 days. If we can’t verify your identity or a legal exception applies, we’ll explain why. There’s no charge for a reasonable request.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec or, federally, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

ArtMatch is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14 without the consent of a person having parental authority. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact privacy@tryartmatch.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as ArtMatch evolves. When we make a material change, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, tell you directly. Continuing to use ArtMatch after a change means you accept the updated policy.
